What...?!

Listen to this: Lenara (my TWO-year-old) and I were sitting at the dinner table just recently.

Lenara: Mommy....
Mommy: What is it, honey?
Lenara: Mommy, I think, you have a weight problem.
Mommy: What????!???

So 4 people within 3 weeks either asked, if I'm pregnant or I'd be having weight problems. Something's going real wrong here... (and honestly, I think that's why Lenara mentioned it, bc she had heard me angrily quote the earlier stories.). My...

  1. Lol--gotta love the German way of being so direct! Sounds weird, but I love that quality.
It's a lot better than subtle weird questions like--are you going to have more children (awkward glance at belly)?
Trying to look on the bright side! ; )
I always gained weight in new relationships...social eating is done quite often here in our house. "it's about dinner time" happens and we eat together a lot more than only if we ate when/if we were hungry.
The important question is do you feel good about your body!? These kilos come and go and you shouldn't worry about it because (if you gave gained weight or not) you are healthy and come spring you'll be biking around again everywhere.
Go eat chocolate & tell them to shhh. Except your darling daughter...everything she says and does is fabulously cute.

Address please!!! Olivia needs to mail something.

  2. In Holland, Suriname, and Mexico (these are the places I'm most familiar with) it's pretty common to remark about about a person's physique, and it's not usually meant in a malicious way. In fact, a lot of nicknames are based on your looks. Short, Tall, Dark, Skinny, Fat, Bald, Blond, etc. Sometimes the name given is the "opposite" of the reality, such as calling someone Fat if they're skinny, for example. Somehow, in English it never sounds as endearing, however.

So, should we start calling you Fatty? Chubs? Or dick in German? LOL
